The Same River

Z wants to retire early — in Spring, 2020 — and hike the AT. He feel that enough green in your field of vision is the prozac of nature. That light, spring, young green all over this valley. Whatever that Japanese phrase is about bathing in a forest1.

I said — I know I’m not supposed to give advice, but you should probably just go right now.

J said this is probably his favorite place on the planet. He drops yellow flower buds over the bank.

They float and circle back around upstream.

I ask — An experiment?

He answers — An experience.

Maybe you can float in the same river twice.

  1. It’s shinrin-yoku.
