The Callback

The campus was like a serious Disneyland protecting a budget the size of the Pentagon. It was Ash Wednesday and a modern trinity of buildings curved like the intersections near the off ramps of the triple digit freeways. There were more people crossing the courtyard than you could ever know at lunchtime, saying things like “the callback was never triggered” to her co-worker.
